Golden Jubilee Children's Picnic

It's now two weeks since the Duck Curry competition and the Children's Picnic is upon us. This event is focused on kids of all ages and there was plenty of fun to be had. I was lucky enough to be asked to present trophies to the winners and there were many of them - ranging in age from 2 to 92. I donated 5 dozen hot dogs and the fixings as well as a couple of watermelons. Others donated ice-cream, hamburgers, cones and fruit so the kids could have lots more to eat besides the copious amounts of food their families fetched to the park.

I was quite amused when I overheard a comment from one of the guests that someone else's picnic basket looked as big as a casket. And I have to say, I completely agreed. Some of the food "baskets" - and I use the word basket very loosely - were huge! If they were in Guyana, they'd need dray carts to take those babies to the park! And that was just for one family! Easily enough food to serve a hungry army.

Again, another overwhelmingly huge attendance from the Guyanese and non-Guyanese community.
